Mosquito Bits are a highly selective microbial insecticide effective against mosquitos that carry West Nile Virus, Encephalitis, Malaria, Dengue Fever, in a variety of habitats. Bt israelensis can be used wherever mosquitoes breed: the periphery of ponds, lakes, flooded orchards, ditches, pastures, sewage or animal waste lagoons, roof gutters, run-off areas, and so on.
When spread over the surface of standing water, the Bits release a biological mosquito larvicide at the water?s surface. This larvicide gradually settles in the water where it is eaten by mosquito larvae growing there. A single application can achieve 90% kill within an hour and nearly 100% kill within 24 hours.
Granular Bti should be broadcast at 1/2 lb per 2000-2200 square feet or 2.5-10lbs/acre, every 7-14 days, depending on the organic properties of the water: black, murky water will require more than clear water. 10-20lbs/acre every 7-14 days may be needed to control 3rd & 4th instar larvae in highly organic waters. Bti does not harm people, pets, birds, fish, or plants. Dunks also can be used as a preflood treatment in areas expected to become breeding sources. |
